TASTING NOTE

Sourced from a single vineyard in the cooler area of Eden Valley, Barossa. Grown on an ancient podzolic soil with low fertility. The wine has a pale straw colour with aromas of freshly cut nashi pear and apple.  Made in the French Alsace style it is a blend of 20% malolactic fermented wine and 20% new French oak barrels. This results in plush and juicy flavours with an elegant, soft, dry finish.  Extended aging in barrel on yeast lees and bottle aged before release, integrates the unique characters the result is a complex wine.

As with all our wines, the Sorter Pinot Gris is Vegan Friendly

About the Label

Sorter is created in honour of the French Alsace style of Pinot Gris, with an imaginative depth of winemaking that gives this wine a unique twist, typical of Jo Irvine’s signature style.

SORTER: During the battle with Greeks in 432-404 B.C., the Corinthians used greyhounds to protect their city by boxing them at the seashore to warn of any impending invasion.  On one occasion during the night the Greeks came ashore whilst the Garrison were asleep.  One greyhound named ‘Sorter’ fled to the town to give warning and roused the soldiers to battle, thus saving the town.  The grateful townsfolk erected an engraved monument in her honour.

Reviews

Much more complex Gris with clever winemaking application applied – the wine rests on lees in older oak barrels for part of its maturation time. The resulting wine has richness and soft texture, nutty-savoury characters through unctuous pear notes. Fleshes out nicely and finishes exceptionally long. A fumé style by way of Gris. Richer, fuller white wine and very compelling as an expression. - Mike Bennie, WBM

A luxuriously textured and full flavoured pinot gris, Joanne has taken this variety and made it her own by “completely blowing the budget” on the finest French oak barrels available, retaining all the plush, juicy nashi pear and white peach flavours for you to explore with food. A must with roasted pumpkin, blue cheese, spinach and pine nut gnocchi. - Fabulous Ladies Wine Society
